Favorite success story:
- The biggest complaint we hear comes from the significant other not being able to sleep in the same bed due to snoring. Every patient we have treated has been a success story and we are happy to help them.
Advice for Treating Sleep in Your Office:
- A big thing that I learned after making a few Zyppah appliances was not to use the 3 oz band for the front on the first visit. I spoke with Dr. Greenburg and that’s what he recommended which has really worked well.
- Another thing that we do is if the patient is comfortable with the stage that they are on, we let them stay on that level until they are ready for change. A lot of patients don’t want to change the bands because they like the way it works for them. Each patient is different and we treat each one based on their symptoms.
- We try to manage expectations. Patients think they will stop snoring immediately once they get the Zyppah. My office staff does an amazing job with managing expectations about what to expect with the Zyppah.
- Last but not least, phone calls. We always call our patients to follow up. It really goes a long way.

Effects of Exercise Training on Sleep Apnea:
A Meta-analysis
Background
Several studies have shown a favorable effect of supervised exercise training on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This meta-analysis was conducted to analyze the data from these studies on the severity of OSA (primary outcome) in adults. Secondary outcomes of interest included body mass index (BMI), sleep efficiency, daytime sleepiness and cardiorespiratory fitness.
Conclusions
This meta-analysis shows a statistically significant effect of exercise in reducing the severity of sleep apnea in patients with OSA with minimal changes in body weight. Additionally, the significant effects of exercise on cardiorespiratory fitness, daytime sleepiness, and sleep efficiency indicate the potential value of exercise in the management of OSA.
